The UA Ruhr Graduate Centre for Development Studies is a collaboration project in the framework of the University Alliance Metropolis Ruhr (UAR). The three involved institutes from the Ruhr-University Bochum and the University Duisburg-Essen cooperate to conjoin their distinctive research and teaching areas for complementary benefits. Working on the broad field of development studies, the domains of the Institute of Development Research and Development Policy (IEE) are economics and law, while the Institute of Political Science (IfP) and INEF focus mainly on political science.

Combining these forces of social sciences enables the Graduate Centre not only to enhance the research capacities and outward attractiveness but also to run development oriented multidisciplinary Master- and PhD-Programs. Through the exchange of lecturers and students and recognition of modules of the partners the Graduate Centre enlarges students' choices and options for individual specialization.
