Why Do States Collapse?

Research into the root causes of state collapse has been rather shallow or based on small-N studies. This project aims to test the results of qualitative approaches through a comparative medium-N strategy utilizing a combination of Multi-Value QCA and in-depth case studies. While a number of variables are considered, the role of regime type and elite behavior are of particular interest and will be investigated more closely.
